Itafos: Cheap, But A Cautious Bet On Commodity Mean Reversion

Itafos Inc. (IFOS:CA) (ITFS), is a pure-play phosphate fertilizer producer, anchored by its flagship Conda complex in Idaho, with a production capacity of ~550kt per year of phosphate fertilizers. The sulphur-to-phosphate ratio used to be around ~30% historically, but currently stands at over ~130%, causing significant stress on companies' margins. The investment case remains dependent on normalization of Sulphur-to-phosphate fertilizer spreads, since Sulphur cost inflation cannot be fully passed through to fertilizer pricing over the near to medium term.
